When end users demand more power, it is necessary to increase the transmission capacity of existing power links or build new high voltage power links. As an expert player in this field and involved in numerous projects every year, DNV GL offers this training course on Overhead Lines (OHL). The course provides a high level of insight and knowledge to overhead line design, covering all aspects of the latest technologies involved – electrical, mechanical, structural and civil. Electrical aspects include insulation coordination, earthing, EMF and EMC. From a mechanical point of view, tower strength, stiffness and dynamics are addressed. The course also examines line routing and tower spotting, tower foundations, as well as installation and maintenance issues. A case interactive design will enable participants to immediately put what they have learned into practice.
At the end of the training session, participants will also have an opportunity to test their newly acquired knowledge, dynamic effects, etc.
- Tower types and families
- Tower strength and stiffness
- Line routing and tower spotting
- Insulation coordination / insulators
- Lightning protection
- Electrical clearances
- Case interactive design
- Electromagnetic fields and compatibility (EMF & EMC)
- Maintenance and management
- Q&A session
Anyone who is of will be involved in overhead lines in the course of their daily work. It is recommended - but not a requirement - that the participants have at least a Bachelor of Engineering degree or some prior knowledge of designing overhead lines.
